"Honey" by Nikki Smith is a portrait of a young woman with bumble bees and honeycomb. Inspired by "Tupelo Honey" by Van Morrison and other songs, she captures my heart and imagination, and hopefully yours, too.
Sometimes my muse shows me fully formed flashes of artwork, and it is my challenge to capture that fleeting glimpse, labor over it and birth it into the world before it fades from memory. That was the case with this piece. I walked around a corner and there she was, hanging on my wall one moment and gone the next. She has evolved as I painted her, but her essence and spirit remains true to that first powerful moment of recognition and connection.
Oh, Honey, be ever true to yourself. You can do anything if you put your heart into it. Believe.
